Register now for our eight-week therapeutic parenting course facilitated by Sarah Mundy, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, held online using Zoom. Facilitated by Natalie Tate from Adopt South West.
The course is based on Kim Golding’s Foundation for Attachment and considers the impact of early loss and trauma on children. We talk about shame and blocked trust and how you can support your children to feel safer to accept nurturing and loving care. We also have a think together about you and what you may be bringing to your relationship with your child.
Parents who have attended this group have found it so helpful – both with regards to understanding and supporting their children (and themselves), but also as it helps them feel less alone and provides space to talk with other adopters with similar experiences. As we progress along the course and get to know each other, the content is adapted to fit with what participants want to bring, ensuring it is relevant to all.
Spaces are limited as this is a popular course, if the course becomes fully booked you will be added to the waiting list for the next course; dates to be confirmed.
This course will be from Wednesday 1 October to Wednesday 17 December 2025
Each session will run for three hours, 10am to 1pm
The aims are to:
- To help adoptive parents understand how early trauma and disrupted attachments affects the child’s developmental process.
- To help adoptive parents reflect on how the child’s early history is enacted in the here and now and to increase their understanding of the meaning behind behaviours.
- To enable adoptive parents to implement a therapeutic parenting approach to improve attunement and attachment.
- To reflect on the child’s specific attachment difficulties how what this means for their parenting and their family life in general.
- To enable parents to build confidence in using PACE by creating opportunities to practice therapeutic parenting in a supportive group environment.
- To enable adoptive parents to reflect on their own attachment histories and how these impact on their parenting.
- To promote self-care and self-reflection for parents.
