SUMMARY:Just Right State: six-session course for parents - FULL
DESCRIPTION:This course is now fully booked.\nUnderstanding the sensory and

rapist and Attachment Counsellor\, to provide parents with an opportunity

works\, to observe their child’s ability to self-regulate\, and finally
\, consider how to provide a regulating environment in the home.\n\nSelf-r
egulation in this context\, refers to the capacity to regulate physiologic
al responses and respond in an appropriate and organised manner to environ
mental demands\, such as engaging in an activity or engaging with others (

es\nThe objective of the Just Right State Programme is to provide parents
with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding about how their chil
d’s nervous system works\, to observe their child’s ability to self-re
gulate\, and finally\, consider how to provide a regulating environment in
the home.\n\nSelf -regulation in this context\, refers to the capacity to
regulate physiological responses and respond in an appropriate and organi
sed manner to environmental demands\, such as engaging in an activity or e
ngaging with others (Bhreathnach\, 2014\; JRS programme).\n\nAlongside thi
s\,  the programme looks at attachment patterns from a DMM perspective (D
ynamic maturational model) and encourages parents to observe the purpose o
f their child’s behaviours. Is it to regulate arousal states or to enhan
ce sensory information? Is to ensure attention\, activate comfort or prote
ction from adults? Is to gain approval?\n\nChildren with complex trauma ty
pically present with overlapping or fluctuating sensory and attachment pat
terns. Correct interpretations helps us to provide them with the support t
hey need to feels safer and more regulated\n\nThe programme is experientia
l and participatory and aims to promote shared fun and enjoyment. Loads of
strategies are shared and by the end of the course the aim is that parent
s have some concrete strategies to help regulate their child and awareness
of how they can best engage and get alongside them when they are distress
 ed.
